Magnetism
Today we studied magnetism and starting by looking at the properties of magnets. It turns out that the Earth is like a huge magnet and therefore affects all things that have electromagnetic properties. This is the reason compasses point in a specific direction, north. However, the presence of other magnets can also change its orientation. This shown in the demonstration below where Mason is holding a magnetic pin close to the compass in order to change the orientation of the magnet.
Below is another view of what it looks like when Mason is holding out the pin.
In order to do this experiment we needed the materials shown below.
Well, it turns out that magnets can only have two poles. And, if we cut a magnet into two magnets, each of them will have a North pole and a South pole.
Next we studied the magnetic flux.
